Bikram yoga, known by the popular name 'hot yoga', was founded and popularised by Bikram Choudhury. A new Netflix documentary titled Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator charts the story of Bikram, who allegedly used his position to rape, assault, and harass multiple women. The newly released trailer showcases countless interviews with his followers, highlighting two sides of him.
Eva Orner, the director of the documentary narrates how Bikram Choudhury and a small group of insiders created a system that helped his whereabouts to remain a secret. However, a few students break the barriers and open up about his stories of discomfort. At the Toronto International Film Festival 2019, Eva shared her thoughts about the documentary. When questioned about people following Yogi out of ignorance or out of defiance of news that has been circulating, Eva shared her neutral thoughts that there are absolute supporters of Bikram who do not believe if any of this is true, and then there are people who follow him strictly for his yoga skills. The trailer seems to be divided into two segments. It begins with his followers praising his skills and then goes on to one of them explaining his ugly side.
Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator is directed by Eva Orner, an Australian filmmaker and producer who won an Academy Award in 2008 for the documentary Taxi to the Dark Side. According to reports, this is her fourth project. The documentary will stream on Netflix on November 20. Check out the trailer below.
