Comali trailer: Jayam Ravi-Kajal Aggarwal comedy has reference to Rajinikanth amid hilarious chaos

The trailer of Jayam Ravi-Kajal Aggarwal- starrer 'Comali' has been released. It features funny moments after Jayam Ravi returns from coma after 16 years. It also has a reference to Rajinikanth.

Independence Day is going to have something for everyone, ‘Mission Mangal and ‘Batla House’ for  Bollywood, ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ for those interested in international content and ‘Sacred Games’, for the digital binge-watchers; and even Tamil cinema fans will have Jayam Ravi-Kajal Aggarwal’s ‘Comali’ to look forward to. The trailer of the film was unveiled on Saturday and promises a fun-filled ride. One of the highlights in the trailer is Jayam Ravi quipping over Rajinikanth’s political links over the past two decades.

The story of ‘Comali’ revolves around Jayam Ravi’s character, who comes into his senses after 16 years in coma. The plot then involves the funny instances of the time gap, be it giving ‘change’ to the tea-seller for a cup thinking he’d get change in return, getting shocked at Kajal Aggarwal’s torn jeans, etc. Yogi Babu is also in fine form as his friend. 

The twist in the tale comes when he realises his girlfriend from 16 years ago, played by Samyukta Hegde, is married and the funny instances around it form the basic plot.

One of the best moments is when Yogi Babu tells him, “This is 2016”, asking him to believe it by looking at the TV where Rajinikanth is saying ‘I will enter politics’. Jayam Ravi then refuses to believe it and says, “This is 1996.”

The comment seems to be a reference to Rajinikanth’s political links for over two decades, The superstar’s statements are often termed as responsible for late Jayalalitha’s defeat in the assembly elections in 1996. The ‘Petta star then finally joined politics by launching his own party in December 2017.

Meanwhile, ‘Comali’ has been directed by Pradeep Ranganathan and the music has been composed by Hiphop Tamizha.
