EXCLUSIVE: Sri Reddy Reveals Why #TamilLeaks Is Happening Now

Sri Reddy said that she wishes to change this tradition of casting couch and does not want to indulge in the practice anymore

South Indian actress Sri Reddy has exposed big names from Tollywood and Kollywood in a series of Facebook posts with the #TamilLeaks who are allegedly involved in casting couch. She named several actors and filmmakers and blamed them for misbehaving on the pretext of offering her a role in their film.

In an exclusive interview with Republic World, Sri Reddy spoke about why she has chosen to speak up now and why she deserves justice.

The 34-year-old actress made stepped into the industry five years ago. Ever since she said she has been victimised by several filmmakers and actors for sexual favour. Talking about why she spoke after five years she said, “It did not happen in one night,this is a process of my five years life. I am coming out  with this issue and people should be very proud and I am talking about this nonsense with  courage and people have to support me.”

Terming the casting couch as a tradition which is being followed across Kollywood and Tollywood, she said, “I wish to change this tradition and do not want to indulge in the practice of casting couch anymore. I do not want to see the casting couch in any film industry and want my life to be an example for those women and girls who dream to join the film industry.”

On quizzed about why she is revealing one name at a time, she said that she wants the focus on individual people, which would not be possible if she releases all names at once.“I want to unmask their faces and reveal the truth. All these people act well in the public and get respect,” she said. 

In a shocking revelation, the actress said that she will be revealing about the rapes that happen in the film industry. She said that rapes happen everywhere, but compared to other industries or organisation the provoking level is different in their line of work as they are maintaining good physique and wear good dresses.

“The producers are here to mess around with heroines. Majority of the producers are here to roam around with girls and be with the girls. After getting lot of money, they come to the cinema industry for the girls and not for earning money,” she added.

The 34-year-old claims that other actresses do not come out in the open as they fear that their professional life would be in danger and their character would be questioned. Their character, she says, will be “blackmarked”  and media will raise a hundred questions regarding the matter which they prefer to avoid.

On asking whether her opening up about the matter, will encourage others to open up about their experience, she said, “From past five years, I thought like every other woman. I feared that my character will be questioned and the whole world will be angry with me and not accept me. But now I want my life to be an example of how it should not be,” she said.
