‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ has been a phenomenon that no Indian film has been able to match so far. The box office records of the Telugu drama, earning close to Rs 500 crore in the Hindi version and over Rs 1000 crore worldwide, are unparalleled, while there’d probably be very few who’ve never heard about the movie. However, on the medium of TV, it has been beaten. Ajith’s ‘Viswasam’ has come up trumps against the SS Rajamouli magnum opus by becoming the highest-watched South Indian film on its TV premiere.

According to reports citing Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), the Ajith-Nayanthara family-action drama witnessed a mammoth 1,81,43,000  impressions when it was premiered on May 1. The movie has beaten the viewership that ‘Baahubali’ enjoyed, which was, 1,70, 70,000. Interestingly, even before, the Prabhas starrer was not the most-watched South Indian film as previously, Vijay Anthony-starrer ‘Pichaikkaran' held the record. The figures were shared by South trade expert Ramesh Bala on Twitter.

As far as the box office figures are concerned, ‘Viswasam’, directed by Siva, is reported to have earned over Rs 200 crore worldwide. Despite the tough fight with Rajinikanth’s ‘Petta’, as they both released on Pongal, the movie enjoyed a tremendous run at the ticket windows.

Ajith, meanwhile, is currently working on ‘Ner Konda Parvaai’, the official remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s critically acclaimed ‘Pink.’
