Stars that made significant contributions to the Kerala relief fund

South Indian film industry came together for help to the victims of Kerala floods. Several celebrities made significant contributions to the Chief Minister's relief funds.

As Kerala is flooded following days of persistent rains, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan requested people to make generous contributions towards the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund in a press meet on Thursday. He said that the government needs more fund to restructure the state and rescue the sufferers, after days of damage and loss. Along with Bollywood, South Indian film industry also came together for help to the victims of Kerala floods. Several celebrities made significant contributions to the Chief Minister's relief funds and, in fact, some of them volunteered to shelter the sufferers providing them with all basic amenities. 

Here’s how celebrities are contributing to the relief efforts:

 Mohanlal and Mamooty

The twin-stars of the Malayalam film industry donated  Rs. 25 lakh each towards the relief fund. In fact, they have also encouraged their fans to join the relief efforts. As per media reports, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) have also donated a sum of Rs 50 lakh in two installments for the relief.

Tovino Thomas

Young-star Tovino Thomas took up an active initiative to help the distressed. He opened his house in Irinjalakkuda for the people who have been affected by floods. He is also providing basic amenities to the flood-victims and promised to take care of them until the situation comes under control. 

Siddharth Suryanarayan 

Actor Siddharth Suryanarayan has also contributed to the relief efforts in Kerala. He donated Rs.10 lakhs to the relief funds and also began a social media campaign to raise funds for the flood victims. 

“I implore you to contribute whatever you can to this urgent cause. Please post your donation proof online if you wish to inspire others to do the same. Let us call this the #KeralaDonationChallenge. We all know how much the internet loves a challenge.” he wrote in his social media post.

Reportedly, Tamil actors like Kamal Haasan, Suriya-Karthi, and Vijay Sethupathi, contributed Rs. 25 lakhs each to the relief fund.  

Dhanush 

The 'Raanjhanaa' star Dhanush also contributed Rs. 15 lakh to the Chief Minister’s fund. The actor also took to Twitter to pray for the state. 

 Vishal and Sivakarthikeyan 

Tamil actors Vishal and Sivakarthikeyan also contributed to the Kerala relief funds. They gave Rs. 10 lakh each to the relief fund. 

Allu Arjun 

Celebrities from the Telugu film industry have also extended their help to Kerala. Actor Allu Arjun contributed Rs. 25,00,000 for the Kerala Flood Relief. Taking to Twitter, the actor wrote, “People of Kerala will always occupy a special place in my heart for the unmatchable Love & Affection they shower . Their Love & the Loss is Unmatchable. But still I take the Honour to do my bit. I hereby pledge to donate 25,00,000 for the #KeralaFloodRelief . Love “M”Allu Arjun (sic),”

Vijay Deverakonda

Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda also contributed to the Kerala flood relief. The actor took to Twitter to announce his donation for the noble cause. He started of donation with Rs. 5 lakhs, however, he said he is all willing to contribute more. 

"I hear Kerala is reeling under floods and situation is quite bad! Kerala was my first holiday destination and has given me a lot of love for my work, I've met a lot of people from there who are some of the nicest people I know, I don't know how to reach out personally." he wrote in his Twitter post.

"But I am thinking of you. Rowdies, let's all pitch in small amounts and we may make a huge change to someone like us in Kerala. Here, I'll start us off with 5,00,000/- #KeralaFloodRelief" he added.
