Who Is Aditi Mittal ? The Woman Who Has Been Accused By Kaneez Surka For Sexual Harassment

Aditi Mittal is one of the first female stand-up comedians of India. She recently made headlines after another comedian Kaneez Surka, accused her of sexual harassment.

Comedian Aditi Mittal recently made headlines in the wake of the #MeToo movement, after Kaneez Surka accused the former of sexual harassment. Surka, who is a popular stand-up comedian, especially known as the host of 'The General Fun Game Show' and for hosting several improv comedy shows, accused Mittal of "kissing her on her mouth" on a stage. In her elaborate tweet, narrating the incident that "humiliated and shocked" her she wrote, "Aditi Mittal walked up on the stage and forcefully kissed me on my mouth, while I was still on stage and without my consent. It left me humiliated, shocked and completely stripped of choice. Every person is entitled to choice and boundaries and she violated mine."

Aditi Mittal has not yet responded to the tweet, but has retweeted Kaneez Surka's post, without any clarification from her side. 

Who is Aditi Mittal ?

Aditi Mittal is one of the first female stand-up comedians of India. She started off her career as a stand-up comedian, even before the comic scene in the country was popularized. She was one of the first five Indians to be featured in an Indians only stand-p show called Local Heroes, in the year 2009. The show was organized by the U.K based “The Comedy Store. 

She did her first solo show titled, 'Things They Wouldn't Let Me Say', in the year 2013. She spoke about all the things that women usually refrain from talking to in public, especially in front of the opposite sex (eg bra and periods).The tour features an appearance by sex therapist, Dr.Mrs. Lutchuke and Dolly Khurana, the “thinking” Bollywood starlet. In the same year, she was invited by  the BBC for the prestigious 100 Women Conference in London.

Mittal was a part of the infamous roast conducted by the comedy group AIB, in 2014. She was the only female on the panel, of which actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor too were a part.  Apart from this, the comedian has represented India on several international platforms. She has been featured in the American documentary stand-up Planet, along with American and South African comics,  which is a stand-up comic’s quest to find some of the best humor coming from corners of the developing world.

She was one of the founding members of the Ghanta Awards and the Filmfail Awards, two of the biggest parody award shows in India.She has featured in 'Ripping the Decade' with Vir Das, 'Fools Gold Awards' on Comedy Central India, 'Bollywood OMG' on Channel V. 

The comedian cracks up people with her jokes on topics that range from world politics to sanitary napkins,toddlers to Bollywood films. She had reportedly said that her brand of humour is personal and observational. She had created a character of Dr (Mrs) Lutchuke for a series of her videos. She had reportedly said that she created the character because  she did not like the way sex was portrayed by the media.Mittal has spoken at India’s 1st Sex Exposition by India Today, WIFT India (Women in Film and Television), Indian School of business, Hyderabad and comedy festivals across the country.

Mittal's YouTube series Bad Girls showcases women activists. The first episode, released in February 2017, focused on Nidhi Goyal.
