This August turned out to feature the biggest weekend collection in the Indian box office’s 100+ years of history. Four massive films came from established actors such as Rajinikanth, Sunny Deol, Chiranjeevi, and Akshay Kumar. However, Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar ended up having the worst box office collections out of the four.
3 things you need to know:
- Bhola Shankar is a remake of the 2015 film Vedalam.
- It stars Keerthy Suresh, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Chiranjeevi.
- Bhola Shankar has received negative reviews from critics and fans alike.
Bhola Shankar disappoints in 3-day-weekend
Chiranjeevi has already delivered a hit this year with Waltair Veerayya alongside Ravi Teja. However, Bhola Shankar just didn’t head in the same direction, as the film ended up making a measly Rs 26.4 crore at the box office. Bhola Shankar is said to have a budget of Rs 101 crore at the box office, so it doesn’t help that the first weekend has proven to lack any momentum.

On the opening day, the film still managed to pull numbers with Rs 16.25 crore domestically. On its second day, however, the film dropped down to Rs 5.05 crore at the box office. While it had one last chance to enter recovery with Sunday, it ended up making only Rs 5.1 crore at the box office. As per the makers, the film has managed to haul in Rs 33 crore globally.
India’s biggest weekend ever?
With the release of Rajinikanth’s Jailer, Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Oh My God 2, India officially had its biggest box office weekend ever. As per statements from the Multiplex Association of India and the Producers Guild of India, these four films have collected upwards of Rs 390 crore from Friday the 11th to Sunday the 13th.
