TV shows based on mythology have been loved by many. Shows on Mahabharat and Ramayan are among the most famous ones. There have been quite a few movies as well as television shows based on them. Here are five of the best mythological shows based on Ramayan.

Five best shows on Ramayana

Ramayan (1987)

Created and directed by Ramanand Sagar the show was the first one to be filmed on Ramayan. It was aired from 1987 to 1988 on Doordarshan. Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan is the story of incarnation. It covers the entire story in detail up to Ram's coronation. Tulsidas and Valmiki's was adapted by Ramanand. The show had Arun Govil as Ram, Deepika Chikhalia as Sita, Sunil Lahri as Laxman, Dara Singh as Hanuman, Arvind Trivedi as Ravan and others. It was a superhit and still has an IMDb rating of 9.1/10.

Ramayan (2001)

The show aired on Zee TV from 2001-2002. It was primarily based on Valmiki's Ramayana and Tulsidas' Ramcharitramanas directed by Baldev Raj Chopra and Ravi Chopra. The cast has Nitish Bhardwaj as Ram, Smriti Irani as Sita, Bijay Anand as Lakshman, Deepak Jethi as Hanuman, Surendra Pal as Ravan along with others. It was the second television show on Ramayana as per sources.

Ramayan (2008)

The show was a remake of the famous 1987s series of the same name. The plot was inspired by Valmiki's Ramayan, Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas and Chakbasta's Urdu Ramayan with elements of other works. The series aired on NDTV Imagine from 2008 to 2009. The cast was Gurmeet Choudhary as Ram, Debina Bonnerjee as Sita, Ankit Arora as Lakshmana, Vikram Sharma as Hanuman, Akhilendra Mishra as Ravan and others.

Ramayan: Sabke Jeevan Ka Aadhar (2012)

Produced by Sagar Arts, it was another remake of the original series with the same name, made in 1987. It aired on Zee TV from 2012 to 2013. The cast was Gagan Malik as Rama, Neha Sargam as Sita, Neil Bhatt as Lakshmana, Malhar Pandya as Hanuman, Sachin Tyagi as Ravana with others. It was directed by Mukesh Singh, Pawan Parkhi and Rajesh Shikhre.

Siya Ke Ram (2015)

The recent show on Ramayan is Siya Ke Ram which aired in 2015. It was aired on Star Plus. The show was telecast in multiple languages in India and abroad including Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, and the UK as well as parts of the Middle East. The show casts Ashish Sharma as Ram, Madirakshi Mundle as Sita, Karan Suchak as Lakshman, Danish Akhtar Saifi as Hanuman and Karthik Jayaram as Ravana with others.
