‘Friends’ Pop-up Lets Sitcom’s Fans Explore Show’s Key Props

Freinds fans who snagged tickets to the New York City Pop-Up can now revisit and experience some of the beloved and the most quotable moments. They can now plop down on the orange couch at Central Perk and play foosball in Chandler and Joey's apartment. Insides of the Pop-Up

Visitors will be able to walk through different sections in 8,500 square feet loft space where more than 50 original props will be displayed. The non-descriptive downtown building in a trendy Manhattan neighborhood will feature complete set recreations, various photo ops, and the iconic Central Perk. The set also includes replicas of Joey and Chandler's living room and Central Perk's counter and lounging area. Fan's will also get to see original costumes like Monica's chef uniform, Phoebe's suede jacket, and Ross' famous leather pants. Fans will also be able to take photos in the classic turkey head. There are several opportunities where the fans can insert themselves into familiar scenes for selfies and posed photos. 

The Pop-Up which is an experimental project initiated by Superfly, in partnership with Warner Bros., which produced the show from 1994-2004. The Pop-Up opened on September 07 and will run until October 06. the tickets went on sale on August 02 but were sold out immediately. James Michael Tyler, who played Gunther was at a press preview for the Pop-Up says he was amazed at the detail.

“It’s really surreal… this particular pop up is far more elaborate than the ones that we’ve had in the past. This is literally like a ‘Friends’ museum. It’s amazing how many props and little things that just bring back memories to me.”

Maggie Wheeler, who played the role of Janice says, “It’s very rare to be able to kind of walk into a set, a place that lives in your memory, that you have all of these associations with, and sit here and touch this couch and look at this table and feel yourself living in the environment where all of these characters lived,” she said. “So I think people are going to really flip out and I think they’re going to have so much fun I think it’s going to be hard to get people to leave.”
