However, this is not the first time the film was trolled by a State Police department. Previously, Mumbai Police has trolled 'Thugs of Hindostan' ahead of its release. Besides Aamir Khan, the film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead roles. Produced by Yash Raj Films, 'Thugs Of Hindostan' is an adaptation from a Philip Meadows Taylor's 1839 novel titled 'Confessions Of A Thug'. The period drama set in the backdrop of the pre-Independence era tells the story of a group of 'thugs' who rebel against the British rule.

Many fans pointed out the uncanny resemblance the film has to the Hollywood franchise 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. However, despite choppy reviews, the film has been faring well at the box office. It has recorded the highest opening day collection ever with Rs 50 crore and entered the 100 crore club on Sunday. Meanwhile, the period drama has reportedly been leaked within hours of it releasing across the country by an online piracy site. Fans have asked the authorities to take immediate action, as this is the second major film that has fallen prey to them in the last one week.
