Bachchan Family Feud: Several reports have hinted at an ongoing tiff within the Bachchan household for months. Speculations are rife with trouble in paradise for Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, who tied the knot in 2007. Their solo public appearances and social media activities have further given strength to the rumours. Amid this, an old interview of Amitabh Bachchan defending his daughter-in-law is now going viral on social media.

When Amitabh Bachchan reacted to reports of Aishwarya Rai being ‘Manglik’ 

At the time of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai's wedding, it was claimed that the Jodha Akhbar actress was ‘Manglik’. At the time it was reported that the actress was made to marry a tree before tying the knot to Abhishek. Ridiculing all such speculations, Amitabh Bachchan expressed his anger in a 2007 interview.

Speaking to Midday at the time the veteran actor shared, “This is very insensitive. First, there were reports about her being a Manglik before marriage, and then getting married to a tree, and now this. Every day there is some prediction about what she is, what her future will be, yeh jis ghar mein jayegi uska father-in-law mar jayega (her father-in-law will die). Aishwarya is not unlucky for us! Whatever is fated will happen.”

He further shared how such was detrimental for the couple. He added, “It’s all very well for the media to speculate and write, but has anyone thought about what she and her family must be going through? The worst is that the speculation has not stopped. Yeh ho gaya, woh ho gaya (this has happened, that has happened) — all because of Aishwarya! Have they any idea what she and Abhishek are really going through? What’s marriage but the belief between two people? It’s not scientific or ritualistic. It’s about two minds connecting. This is my wife and she will be my wife for the rest of my life. That’s it."

Is there a rift in the Bachchan family?

For months now, Aishwarya Rai and her daughter Aradhya Bachchan have not been spotted with the rest of the Bachchan clan. On the other hand, Abhishek and his sister Shweta often accompany their parents Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan to public events. This was most evident during the pre-wedding and wedding festivities of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant for which the family members arrived separately.

This was followed by Abhishek Bachchan liking a social media post related to ‘grey divorces’. This further gave rise to reports of his split from his wife Aishwarya. However, the Dhoom actor discredited the same during the Paris Olympics . Even after that, the couple has not made any joint public appearances and no member of the Bachchan family has shown support for Aishwarya for her professional achievements like her SIIMA win for PS 2 or Paris Fashion Week appearance. In fact, Abhishek's niece Navya Nanda reacted positively to Alia Bhatt 's post from the Paris Fashion Week while not acknowledging Aishwarya's. Despite all speculations, no family member has ever confirmed reports of a feud.
