Alia Bhatt has fallen prey to deepfake videos yet again. An AI-generated video of the actress is now doing rounds on social media. Previously actors Aamir Khan, Rashmika Mandanna and Ranveer Singh have fallen prey to the technology and have gone to the extent of taking legal action against it.

Influencer receives flak for creating Alia Bhatt’s video using deepfake

On June 12, an influencer by the name of Sameeksha Avtr took to her Instagram account to share a GRWM video. The social media user has already generated 17 million views on the video. However, instead of her own face, she has morphed Alia Bhatt’s face making it appear as if the Raazi actress is recording the clip.

In the bio of her account, Sameeksha Avtr has written, “All the videos made with using AI for only entertainment purposes”. However, this did not sit well with social media users who objected to the influencer using the faces of popular actresses’ to generate fake videos. One user commented, “AI is getting dangerous day by day”. Another wrote, “Im getting scared of AI now”. The technology is particularly critiqued because more often than not a layperson is unable to differentiate if the video is real or fake causing confusion. The influencer has made several videos using Alia Bhatt’s face in her past videos as well. The Jigra actress is yet to react to the same but her fans and followers have been critiquing the influencer.

When Alia Bhatt fell prey to deepfake before

In May earlier this year, actress Wamiqa Gabbi shared a video on her Instagram handle, which was manipulated into a deepfake featuring Alia Bhatt's face. The video quickly went viral, with many users noting the manipulation. In the video, the actress is wearing a red saree with a braided hairstyle, seated on the floor.

The original video was shared by Wamiqa Gabbi on her official Instagram account. In the original footage, she was elegantly showcasing a red saree worn for the screening of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest Netflix series, Heeramandi. Interestingly, the event was also attended by Alia Bhatt. This is not the first instance of Alia Bhatt being targeted by deepfake technology. Previously, a morphed video of her went viral, featuring not only her face but also her voice and gestures accurately replicated. In that manipulated clip, she was seen wearing a floral co-ord set, gesturing towards the camera while seated on a bed.
