As per reports from a news agency, Amitabh Bachchan was unable to attend the Sharjah Book Fair this year because of his health problems. The statement was made from the event's official Twitter handle which read that Amitabh Bachchan was 'unable to fulfil his scheduled attendance at the book fair on October 30 at 5 pm, owing to health issues which make him unfit to undertake overseas travel'. The statement further read: "Mr Bachchan sent his regards to the millions of fans who were eagerly anticipating to hear from him, in person, at the book fair. He expressed profound dismay for missing this opportunity to meet and address them."

For the uninitiated, Amitabh Bachchan was discharged from Nanavati Hospital a few weeks back after being admitted for some routine check-up. The actor went for a routine check-up at the hospital and remained there for the next two days due to some liver problem. Once he was discharged, Bachchan left the hospital with his wife Jaya Bachchan and son Abhishek. There were series of reports claiming that the superstar was suffering a liver problem but sources claimed there was no truth to it. "He came to the hospital for routine check-up. He is doing fine. He is hale and hearty," sources had said earlier.

After being discharged, the actor requested everyone to respect his privacy. He wrote: "Do NOT break the CODE of professional documentation .. ailments and medical conditions are a confidential individual right .. its exploitation, and its attempted commerce are social illegality .. respect and give required understanding to this .. all is not in the world of sale. My love .. and my gratitude for all .. for all that consider care, that consider concern and consider the prayer for me .."
