Amitabh Bachchan Reveals Lyrics Of My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves Are Inspired By British PM's Speech

The song My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves from Amitabh Bachchan's 1977 film Amar Akbar Anthony has been a fan favourite. Big B, on numerous occasions, has been asked to recreate the popular one-breath line from the song. In a post shared on his blog recently, the Bollywood megastar revealed how the viral lyrics of the track were inspired by British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli's speech in 1878.

When Big B was allowed to say "junk" in a song

In a long post, looking back at the time My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves was conceived and shot for, Amitabh Bachchan shared that Amar Akbar Anthony director Manmohan Desai allowed him to utter "junk" in the track. The opening lines of the song, which read, "You See The Whole Country Of The System, Is Juxtaposition By The Haemoglobin In The Atmosphere, Because You Are Sophisticated Rhetorician, Intoxicated By The Exuberance Of Your Own Publicity," which were sung by Big B, became an instant hit among his fans.

Talking about this portion in the song, Big B wrote in his blog, "Manmohan Ji just allowed me to say any junk at my request .. just so it looks like a proficient English speaking Anthony, when indeed he is not .. and merely just rattling off some BUMFF .. !"

Big B reveals the connection between his song and British PM's speech

The Piku star also revealed the particular portion in the song is an almost exact quotation from a speech in the Parliament of the United Kingdom given by British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli in 1878.

"Disraeli (who was referring to William Ewart Gladstone) used the word 'inebriated' rather than 'intoxicated'. Wooooaaaahhhh !!! AND .. hang on .. I had some days ago either a letter or a WhatsApp message from a cinema fan and a very proficient scientist, I think from the US, an Indian doing research on space , that the words : ’haemoglobin in the atmosphere’ is a scientific fact .. that indeed there is this factor and a reality, scientifically proven, of ‘haemoglobin in the atmosphere’ .. and his purpose of writing to me was," BIg B shared.

On the work front, Bachchan will be seen in Prabhas starrer Kalki 2898 AD. The film is set to release on June 27.
