Many Aamir Khan fans in China were left disappointed after his event in relation to ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ at a university got cancelled. There are conflicting versions regarding the reason for the cancellation, as failure of the organisations to seek permissions to host the event and students being ‘over-enthusiastic’ were both alleged.

The university, Guangdong University of Finance and Economics (GUFE) in Guangzhou, capital of south China’s Guangdong Province, had cancelled the event which was reported to take place on Monday.

According to reports in Chinese media, the university’s decision was due to the organisers’ failure to get permission for the event. The institution was reportedly not kept in the loop and was not aware till the day of the event.

The university authorities reportedly came to know of it when students started getting excited hours before the event. Apparently, the message made it to only to a small section of Aamir’s fans on social media.

On the contrary, the Weibo (similar to Twitter) account that promotes Aamir’s films in China stated that the university’s move was done ‘unilaterally’ as the students were overly enthusiastic.’

There were many who returned after waiting for more than an hour. The students were obviously unhappy with the entire fiasco and the post from the Weibo account angered them further. At the last-minute, the event was shifted to a five-star hotel near the university.

Some students and varsity officials were quoted pinning the blame on the organisers for the chaos in the reports.
