The Vicky Kaushal-starrer period film Chhaava released in cinemas on February 14 and has been grabbing headlines for several reasons. A video has been going viral in which residents from Burhanpur were seeing gathering at Asirgarh Fort for digging out hidden gold.

Chhaava Effect spreads to Burhanpur, video goes viral

A group of residents were seen digging out the soil near Asirgarh Fort in search of gold and silver, they believe Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb looted from the Marathas and hid there.

As soon as the video went viral, netizens got confused and questioned is this even real?. One user wrote, “What is this?”. Another user wrote, “@grok is chhaava movie a real story of mughals and marathas or just a fictional events”. “@AskPerplexity is this true. What's the source?”, wrote the third user.

Chhaava’s box office performance

The action is where Chhaava truly shines. From ambushes to full-scale battles, the choreography is a feast for the eyes. Chhaava has, till now, collected ₹489.8 crore in India, as per Sacnilk. However, the film was released in Telugu as well today, which is expected to grow in numbers in upcoming days. Chhaava has topped the 2019 film Uri: The Surgical Strike (₹ 244.14 Cr) to become Vicky's highest-grosser.

Helmed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava is a cinematic adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant. Produced under the banner of Maddock Films, Chhaava was released in the cinema halls on 14th February 2025. In the film, Vicky Kaushal plays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, while Rashmika Mandanna essays the role of Maharani Yesubai and Akshaye Khanna plays Aurangzeb.
