Veteran actress Dimple Kapadia is loved by her fans for brilliant performances in various Hindi films in the '70s and '80s. The veteran actress continues to stay relevant even today in roles that illustrate the scope of her creativity. Recently she revealed a few details about her personal life at FCCI Flo Jaipur Chapter.
In an event at FICCI Flo Jaipur, Dimple Kapadia said that her life was so much better after she landed herself a lead role in Bobby when she was only 12 years old. Before this phase, when she was suffering from leprosy, and was threatened that she would be ostracised from school. She also revealed how her medical condition led her to meet Raj Kapoor.
She said, “I was suffering from leprosy at that time. I was about 12 years old. I had it in my elbow. So this man, turned around and said, I’ll see that you get ostracised from school’. That was the first time I heard that word. I didn’t even know what that meant”.
She further added, “Raj Kapoor wanted to meet this girl. He was told there is this beautiful girl and she is suffering from leprosy. Out of this kind of a setback, there was a lot to gain and that’s how I got Bobby. It was the most fabulous time of my life. Anything that I said or wanted or desired, just happened. It was magical. Absolutely magical."
Directed by Raj Kapoor, the 1973 film featured Rishi Kapoor, Pran, Prem Chopra, Prem Nath and Durga Khote. It follows the story of Raja, the son of a rich Hindu businessman who falls in love with Bobby, a poor Catholic girl. Despite facing several obstacles, the couple finally reunites.
In recent years, Dimple Kapadia has been part of several successful commercial films including Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva, Pathaan, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Murder Mubarak. She was also part of Christopher Nolan's directorial Tenet.
