Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta led the coming-of-age film Lakshya. Released in 2004, the war drama movie was based on the 1999 Kargil War. As the film clocks 20 years of release, Farhan Akhtar announced the re-release of the movie in theatres.
On June 18, Farhan Akhtar took to his Instagram account to announce the re-release of his directorial Lakshya. The filmmaker shared a clip from the film and wrote in the caption, “Come, relive the journey of a film that ignited countless dreams and inspired generations.” The movie will return to theatres on June 21.
As soon as the director shared the news of the film’s release, his sister and filmmaker Zoya Akhtar wrote in the comment, “This shoot changed my life ♥️”. Apart from Hrithik and Preity, the war movie also featured Amitabh Bachchan and Boman Irani in pivotal roles. The film tells the story of Karan Shergill, an aimless, lazy young man and the son of a wealthy businessman from Delhi, who joins the Indian Army and matures into a battlefield hero. Over the years, the film has gained cult status.
Lakshya is not the first movie to be re-released in theatres. Previously, the Golden Globe winner movie RRR, starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan was also announced to be re-released. Before RRR several other regional movies like Ghilli (2024), starring Thalapathy Vijay and Vakeel Saab (2021) starring Pawan Kalyan also released in theatres again. The films received a massively positive response from the audience upon re-release.
Additionally, movies like Sholay, Avatar and Titanic also got a new life upon the re-release. Several Hindi films like Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997), Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge (1995), Chak De India (2007) and others were also released again on occasions like Valentine’s Day, Friendships’ Day or in cases where film’s complete milestone.
