Bobby Deol's brief yet impactful appearance as the primary antagonist in the film Animal has impressed the audiences, notably due to his striking entry set against the backdrop of a peppy Persian song. This particular scene, featuring Deol's introduction, has sparked a viral trend, garnering widespread attention for its use of an old Iranian song titled Jamaal Jamaaloo. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga strategically used the almost half-century-old song by the Shirazi Choir to introduce Bobby Deol's character in the film.

Jamaal Jamaaloo song's origin

Jamaal Jamaaloo finds its roots in Iran's musical history, stemming from a poem penned by Iranian poet Bijan Samandar. The Shirazi Choir, a girls' musical ensemble of Kharazemi Girls' High School in the 1950s, delivered a celebrated rendition of this song in 1958. Over the years, the track became a popular fixture in Iranian weddings and functions, gaining recognition for its lively and upbeat nature.

Anoushirvan Rohani, a noted Iranian composer, significantly contributed to the choir's music, creating approximately 45 tracks during their peak. Rohani's compositions, including the spirited rendition of Jamaal Jamaaloo released in 1977, were celebrated for their upbeat melodies, contributing to the enduring popularity of the Shirazi Choir's music.

Animal's upbeat soundtrack

Beyond the success of Jamaal Jamaaloo, Animal has drawn attention for its soundtrack, blending Punjabi folk and iconic genres. Two Punjabi tracks, Arjan Vailly and Duniya Jala Denge, have surged in popularity on the internet. The film also includes an instrumental rendition of AR Rahman's Choti Si Asha from the film Roja (1992) and Ajay-Atul's acclaimed Marathi track Dolby Walya from Jaundya Na Balasaheb (2016). 

Helmed by Sandeep Vanga and produced by T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures, the film also starred Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri in pivotal roles. The film opened to average reviews but managed to leave a mark at the box office.
