Kangana Ranaut is known for not mincing her. The actress took to her social media to express gratitude for a fan who heaped praises on her film Tejas. She responded to the post by slamming Animal and mentioning how films encouraging violence against women are being hailed by the audience.

Kangana Ranaut says she has been fighting hard for women empowerment

Animal directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga scripted history by becoming the fastest film to mint ₹500 crore at the domestic box office. Despite the staggering commercial success, the movie received flak from a section of society for being ‘misogynistic’ and ‘sexist’. Kangana Ranaut has also joined the brigade of people criticising the film.

The actress took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to reply to a fan who appreciated her aerial action movie Tejas. Replying to the Tweet, the actress mentioned that she is the one trying to make films on ‘women empowerment’ at a time when the audience is celebrating films like Animal. She penned a long note that read, “Paid negativity for my films is overwhelming, I have been fighting hard so far but even audiences are encouraging women beating films where they are treated like sex objects and asked to lick shoes, this is deeply discouraging for someone who has been dedicating her life for woman empowerment films, might shift career in coming years, want to give best years of my life to something worthwhile.”

Kangana Ranaut says she said no to working with ‘big heroes’ for the cause of women empowerment

Kangana Ranaut made another subsequent post talking about women in films. She called women being reduced ‘mere flower on the wall’ beyond ‘appalling’. She wrote, “The latest trend of films where women are reduced to mere flower on the wall, violently and disgracefully stripped of their dignity and clothes is beyond appalling. Reminds me of the time when I entered films, vulgar item numbers, quick in and out sleazy and dumb roles against older men were prevalent.”

Kangana added that she has starred in several women-empowering films because of which she had fallouts with many industry biggies. She continued, “Many years later fighting for pay parity, trying to encourage female lead films like Gangster, Woh Lamhe, Fashion, Queen, Tanu Weds Manu, Manikarnika, Thalaivii, Tejas I ruffled many feathers along the way. Went against big production houses like YRF and Dharma. Said no to big heroes like Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, and Ranbir Kapoor. Not because I had anything personal against them, all for the cause of woman empowerment and today looking at the condition of women in films my heart sinks… is film industry only to blame for this? Audiences have no participation in this steep regression of women in films?” Kangana’s comments have been going viral on social media.
