Kareena Kapoor got Imtiaz Ali's first choice for Aditya in Jab We Met replaced?

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Jab We Met went on to become an evergreen favorite for ages to come. This 2007 superhit movie made people fall in love with the characters of Aditya and Geet, but do you know Shahid wasn’t the first choice of filmmaker Imtiaz Ali?

Imtiaz Ali originally wanted to cast Animal star Bobby Deol in this romantic comedy-drama but things couldn’t work out. Both actor and filmmaker have different versions of why Bobby couldn’t make it to the final cut. The duo were very good friends at one point in time but that never translated on the big screen.

Bobby Deol claimed Kareena got him removed 

Talking to HuffPost in 2017, Bobby revealed, "I read that Ashtavinayak has signed Imtiaz for Jab We Met and Kareena is doing the film! And she had gotten her then-boyfriend, Shahid Kapoor to act opposite her. I was like, wow. Quite an industry. We were also to do Highway together but he again did his own thing. But I have no hard feelings against him."

Imtiaz claimed Bobby kept delaying the movie leading to his recasting

While talking to Lallantop once, Imtiaz had shared that he was good friends with Bobby and his family and was planning to make Jab We Met ever since but his debut movie Socha Na Tha took almost five years to complete. He added that when he was available to make the movie, “he was getting other offers from big directors, so he was waiting for that to happen.”

Ali shared that after Bobby kept postponing the movie, he sat him down and called the collaboration off on an amicable note. Jab We Met was eventually received well by the audiences and even won two National Film Awards.
