Laila Majnu Re-Release: Imtiaz Ali Says Producers Today Are Looking For An 'Instant Hit' Film

After the film re-released in Kashmir, Laila Majnu was re-released countrywide on August 9 on much popular demand. The film which was extensively shot in Kashmir and the decision to re-release the film in Srinagar turned out well.

What did Imtiaz Ali say about cult classics?

Imtiaz Ali has written and presented film has received a limited re-release across the country. At the re-release event of the film, the filmmaker said, when any producer makes a movie, they don’t plan for a cult classic film, they want a film that promises instant success.

He further said, “The making of instant has become too much and needs a counter balancing in any ways required, so that the film is not made for first day first show, but it should also last. I am very happy that this correction is being done.” He also said that he would love to watch Andaz Apna Apna”.

Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwary on Laila Majnu gaining new-found popularity amongst movie goers

At the press conference, Avinash Tiwary said, “On the third day when I had gone to watch the film with my parents, the posters were being pulled down. Now, the film is still running houseful in Srinagar. This is a great feeling.”

Triptii Dimri, who have gained recognition after starring in Bulbul, Qala and gained the tag of ‘National Crush’ after starring in Animal mentioned, “Back then, Avinash and I did feel bad. I would think that after the film, I would be so famous that I would not be able to go the market to buy vegetables! Today, people confess, ‘Galti ho gayi, wish we could watch it on the big screen.”

For the unversed, Laila Majnu was a breakthrough in Bollywood for Triptii Dimri and the film could only earn ₹3.20 crore at the domestic box office.
