The ace director appeared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Without divulging many details about the film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali put rumours about Love And War being a remake to rest. The director simply stated that classic movies like Sangam cannot be remade.

The cast of the movie consisting of a trio in the lead and the plotline teased by Bhansali in an earlier interview gave rise to speculation about the film being a remake of  Raj Kapoor, Rajendra Kumar, Vyjayanthimala starrer Sangam. The 1964 film was directed by Raj Kapoor and narrates the story of a pilot, presumed to be dead in a war, who comes home to find his wife has wed his best friend. In the interview, Sanjay Leela Bhansali clarified, “You shouldn't remake Sholay or Mother India, so why would I remake Sangam?” A video of the director talking about this has now gone viral.

In the same conversation, Sanjay Leela Bhansali shared that he is enjoying working on Love and War because it is different from his latest projects. He mentioned that the movie is not a period drama featuring ‘songs and pillars'. He especially expressed excitement in reuniting with Ranbir Kapoor after 18 years. Brushing up on the postponement in release, the filmmaker assured his fans that he would work harder and bring a ‘better film’ for them.

It was last month, when the makers of the Ranbir Kapoor , Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal-starrer epic saga Love and War finally announced that the movie is slated to release on March 20, 2026. Directed by Bhansali (SLB), the film's release date falls during the biggest holiday stretch, coinciding with major festivals like Ramzan, Ram Navmi, and Gudi Padwa following one after the other. The film is said to be a love story about a couple who have to go separate ways owing to familial obligations.
