Mission Raniganj trailer: Valiant Akshay Kumar leads India's 1st coal mine rescue mission

Akshay Kumar starrer Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue is all set to debut in theatres on October 6. On Monday, the makers released the trailer of the film. Based on a real-life incident, the survival drama features Akshay as mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill, who rescued miners trapped inside a flooded coal mine in Raniganj in November 1989.

Akshay Kumar on a rescue mission

The team behind Mission Raniganj

Starring Akshay, Parineeti, Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Mission Raniganj is an ode to the resilience of the human spirit and engineers. The film also marks Tinu Suresh Desai's next thriller after Rustom, which won Akshay Kumar his first National Award. The team received critical and commercial acclaim for the film, which was also inspired by true events.

Meanwhile, Mission Raniganj is inspired by the heroism of the late Jaswant Singh Gill, a mining engineer. In 1989, Gill saved the lives of 65 miners trapped in a Raniganj coalfield. It was known as India's first coal mine rescue. To commemorate Gill's historic act of bravery, November 16 is celebrated by Coal India Ltd as Rescue Day.
