Animal hit the big screen on December 1. The movie starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role is helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Despite the mammoth success of the film at the box office, it is being criticised for being ‘misogynistic’ and ‘sexist’. Now, Lunchbox star Nimrat Kaur has shared candid views on the Ranbir Kapoor starrer.

Nimrat Kaur shares her mixed review for Animal

In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Nirmat Kaur confessed that she liked Animal in parts. She further stated that she does like the culture of expressing extreme hate or extreme love for a film. The actress said, “I find this culture of anxiety about liking or not liking something a lot of pressure. It’s okay to not like something and it’s also okay to hate or like or dislike or like parts of it — Did I hate it all? I did not. Did I enjoy set pieces which were highly charged with background score and action sequences which calls up to my Jatti blood (yes). I’ll be honest, when there were those Range Rovers driving into the Punjab da pind and all, I was like yes brothers! Let’s go for it, I don’t know what you’re fighting for but I’m with you”

In the same conversation, Nimrat also shared that she was ‘anxious’ about sharing her honest review of the movie. She added, “I was scared about what do I write, if I should write, should I not write. I decided to keep quite because you never know how it is interpret it. So I was also anxious about it. I feel it is okay to enjoy something in bits.” She further added that what movies an actor chooses to be a part of is a different issue altogether. She continued, “It is a separate matter as an actor if I would make that choice (to sign such a movie). If I were in that film, I would give you an opinion about why I did it, what I agree with, what I don’t agree with.”

In the same conversation Nirmat Kaur, mentioned that one need not agree with a particular concept in order to enjoy watchin it. She clarified, “In life, there are many things that entertain us in different capacities, we don’t have to agree with it. Everything that entertains you, you don’t have to agree with it. It doesn’t have to confirm a moral canvas that also keeps changing. My moral canvas, my ethic code is not what I live by today as compared to 15 years back. So if my personal opinion and my personal life and what I live by keeps changing, how can I decide for a unit of 350 people who have chosen to be a part of something which is bringing people to the theatres, creating business."
