Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal has wreaked havoc at India and the international box office. While the Ranbir Kapoor starrer has been performing well at the theatres and drawing in audiences in huge numbers, it is also being criticised for glorifying violence and how it treats its female characters, essayed by Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri.

While Rashmika has been earning praise for her short but impactful role in the film, the fact that Parineeti Chopra was cast in the role before her has also been coming into discussions while Sandeep promoted the film. According to the latest reports, the reason behind Parineeti's replacement in Animal has come to light.

Why was Parineeti replaced in Animal?

When the initial cast of Animal was announced, Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra were named as the film's leading cast. However, Parineeti was replaced by Rashmika as time progressed.

According to Telugu Film Nagar, Sandeep opened up about replacing Parineeti in the film saying, "Parineeti signed the film and after a year and a half, just 12 days before the shoot, I began to have reservations about her suitability for the role of Geethanjali. While I acknowledge she is a great performer, I sensed that she was not the right fit, even after the look test. It was a difficult decision and she understandably felt upset. I apologise to her but for me, cinema is bigger than anything."

Animal box office report

After releasing on December 1, Animal has grossed ₹425 crore worldwide in just 4 days. While most of the film's collections have come in from North India, Telugu states and markets in the US, Australia and the UK are also major contributors to its business.

On Monday, the film earned ₹40 crore worldwide. It now holds the title of the highest-grossing Indian film on its first Monday.
