Ranbir Kapoor's last release Animal left a last impact not just at the box office but audiences' minds. The movie divided the audience in two, with a section of the internet criticising its misogynistic approach and violence. Now, for the first time, Ranbir reacted to the criticism in an interview with Nikhil Kamath. The host claimed that films should be watched only for entertainment and not from a place where society derives its sense of morality.

Ranbir seconded his opinion and said that it was the intention behind Animal, but social media "played havoc". He added a lot of people from the film industry told him, "You shouldn’t have done this film, we are so disappointed in you."

Speaking to Kamath, Ranbir said netizens needed something to talk about so they went claiming it was a misogynistic film. "What happens is that the hard work that you put in… I know the director had made Kabir Singh, which also faced the same thing, the hard work gets diminished. Because it gets this tag, which isn’t true, the perception stayed with this film," he added.

He continued that the general public would speak "very fondly" about his film but there were many, including people from the entertainment industry, telling him that they were disappointed in him. However, rather than arguing and giving reasons, he quietly apologises and says, "Sorry I won’t do it next time."

"I don’t really agree with them, but I am in that phase of my life I don’t argue with anyone. If you don’t like my work, I will say I am sorry I will try harder next time,” he said.

Why Ranbir Kapoor did Animal?

In the same conversation, the actor revealed he wanted to break free from his "good boy" image on screen. He was scared that maybe the audience would not accept him, but things panned out well for him after the release. “I had always been following a career path where I was doing good roles, trying to give good social messages, play the ‘good boy’ basically, the coming-of-age romantic image that I had. So, I found this very bold, adult-rated," he concluded.
