BREAKING | Ranbir Kapoor, who is basking in the box office success of his latest outing Animal, has found himself embroiled in controversy following the circulation of a viral video from his recent Christmas celebrations. The footage captures Kapoor pouring liquor on a cake and igniting it while chanting "Jai Mata Di." Allegedly, this act has stirred discontent among followers of Sanatana Dharma, leading to a formal complaint. The complainant has requested the registration of a case against Ranbir Kapoor under sections 295 (A), 298, 500, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code at Mumbai's Ghatkopar police station.

Ranbir Kapoor in trouble for hurting religious sentiments

Complainant Sanjay Dinanath Tiwari, who is reportedly a "Sanatan Dharma preacher", has filed a complaint against Ranbir Kapoor and other Kapoor family members present during the Christmas celebrations, at the Ghatkopar Police Station in Mumbai. The complainant has accused Ranbir Kapoor and the rest of the Kapoor family of "deliberately invoking Hindu Gods and Goddesses by sprinkling intoxicating liquor on the cake and offering it to fire while celebrating other religious festival with the intention of insulting Sanatan Dharma".

Stating that "in Hindu religion, before invoking any of the gods and goddesses, invocation to the fire god is definitely done", Sanjay further alleged that "This information was definitely known to Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and his other family members. Despite this, Ranbir Kapoor has deliberately used liquor and lit a fire and invoked Hindu Sanatan dharm, Gods and Goddesses and raised slogans of "Jai Mata Di"."

Video has been circulated with the aim of insulting Hindus: Complainant

The complainant alleged that this gesture of the actor has hurt the religious sentiment of people who follow Sanatan Dharma. In his complaint, Tiwari stated, "this video has been made and circulated with the aim of insulting our sanatan dharma religious sentiments."

The complainant through the help of advocates Ashish Rai and Pankaj Kumar Mishra has requested the police administration to register a case against the actor under sections 295 (A), 298, 500, 34 of the Indian Penal Code and file an FIR as soon as possible.

What are sections 295 (A), 298, 500, 34 of IPC?

Section 295 A stands for deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.

Section 298 refers to whoever with the deliberate intention of wounding the religious feelings of any person, utters any word or makes any sound in the hearing of that person or makes any gesture in the sight of that person or places any object in the sight of that person, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year or with fine or with both.

While section 500 provides for punishment for defamation, section 34 stands for when a criminal act is done by several people in furtherance of the common intention of all, each of such person is liable for that act in the same manner as the accused.
