The upcoming Nitesh Tiwari-directed Ramayan film has caught attention in Indian Cinema circles in recent months. Ranbir Kapoor is set to portray Lord Ram, alongside Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Reported additions to the cast include Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, and Rakul Preet Singh as Shrupanakha. 

The first instalment of the Ramayana Trilogy commenced filming this month in Mumbai, with shooting scheduled from March to July. Post-production efforts will follow, aiming for a Diwali 2025 release.

When will the official announcement of Ramayana take place?

Amid eager anticipation from fans, an official announcement regarding the project's details is close. Sources close to the production team revealed to Pinkvilla that the announcement is slated for April 17, 2024, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami. This carefully chosen date aligns with the team's commitment to authenticity and reverence for the subject matter.

What more do we know about Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana?

Pre-production efforts from the makers have spanned over five years to ensure well-crafted script development and visual planning. Recent months have seen extensive preparations, including look tests, pre-visualization, and technical rehearsals in Mumbai and Los Angeles. With its emphasis on visual effects, the film promises to be a landmark achievement in Indian cinema.

The production is being led by Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra (DNEG) with a dedicated team of top-tier VFX artists. A 500-day timeline has been allocated exclusively for VFX work as per several media reports.

After completing the shoot of Ramayana, Ranbir Kapoor is set to begin shooting for Love and War which will be directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and co-stars Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. Yash on the other hand will complete Toxic and then will head to shoot for the second part of Ramayana. The story is set to revolve around the life of Ravana, Sita, and Hanuman and will conclude with a mega war in part 3.
