Richa Chadha is basking in the success of her recent outing Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The actress essayed the tole of a courtesan in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial web series. In a new interview, the actress stressed the importance of breaking away from stereotypes so that she can feature in diverse roles. 

‘Stereotyping happens with everyone’, says Richa Chadha 

Richa Chadha made her debut with the Dibakar Banerjee directorial Oye Lucky Lucky Oye. The actress received popular and critical acclaim for her role in the film franchise Gangs Of Wasseypur. In an interview with Instant Bollywood, she argued that she did not want to be perceived as a middle-aged woman hailing from a village, which was her character in the movie, and so she made it a point to dress differently off-screen. 

She shared, “I would just see how people are responding. For instance, after my Gangs of Wasseypur character got really popular, I made sure I dressed sexy and hot for events and awards so that people would know what I really look like, and not like a middle-aged village woman. Those are the strategies that I adopted. Stereotyping happens with everyone but eventually, you get the people who understand who you are. I never thought I would do a song with Bhansali saheb ten years into my career.” 

Richa Chadha recalls losing out on roles 

In the same interview, Richa also shared that she has been replaced in projects multiple times. She shared, “There have been many times when I haven’t got a role that I really wanted. Sometimes I was even shortlisted for the role and I knew that I was the best person for the job, but somehow it didn’t come to me. This has happened various times. What do you do when they say it isn’t working out? I am not one of those who would go to their office and ask them to take me. I don’t do all of this.”
