Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal are all set to get married today, June 23, in the presence of their family and close friends. However, if you are expecting a lavish wedding ceremony, then you'll be disappointed as the couple will have a civil marriage. Rumours have also been doing the rounds that Sonakshi will be converting to Islam as Zaheer is Muslim. Now, the Hero actor's father Iqbal Ratansi has addressed the rumours.
In an interview with Free Press Journal, Iqbal opened up about Zaheer and Sonakshi's wedding and shared that the wedding would not have any religious ceremony. "It will have neither Hindu nor Muslim rituals. It will be a civil marriage," he confirmed. The couple will get married as per the Special Marriage Act of 1954 under which Sonakshi and Zaheer had reportedly given the mandatory one-month notice to the marriage registrar.
Providing more details about the wedding, Ratansi said the ceremony would be held at his Bandra residence on Carter Road. Under the Special Marriage Act, the registrar would come with the marriage register at a venue selected by the couple and complete the legal formalities.
When quipped about if Sonakshi is converting, he rubbished the rumours and said, "Their is a union of hearts and religion has no role to play whatsoever. I believe in humanity. God is called Bhagwan by Hindus and Allah by Muslims. But at the end of the day, we are all human beings. My blessings are with Zaheer and Sonakshi."
Following civil marriage, the couple will have a bash in the evening at Bastian - At The Top, which would be attended by their families and close friends.
