Sonu Nigam's song Mere Dholna 2.0 was among the many chartbusters of the previous year. Despite the overwhelming reception of the song, the singer did not receive a nomination for it or for any other playback song of the year at IIFA 2025. This did not sit well with him and he took to his Instagram account to pen a note for the same after the event was concluded.

What did Sonu Nigam say about IIFA 2025?

The IIFA Awards 2025 were held in Jaipur in a three-day affair from March 7 to March 9. Following the conclusion of the event, playback singer Sonu Nigam took to his Instagram account to share a screenshot of the list of nominees. On March 11, the singer shared the snap showing the list of nominees in the Best Playback Singer male category and pointed out that his name was missing. The singers nominated in the category were Arijit Singh for the song Sajni from Laapataa Ladies, Karan Aujla for Tauba Tauba from Bad Newz, Diljit Dosanjh and Baadshah for Naina from Crew, Jubin Nautiyal for Dua from Article 370, and Mitraz for Akhiyaan Gulaab from Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. Jubin Nautiyal bagged the award in the Best Playback Singer (Male) category.

Blaming it on politics, the singer wrote in the caption, “Thank you IIFA... After all, you were answerable to the Rajasthan bureaucracy." Soon after the post, fans of the singer took to the comment section to rally in support of him. The issue came to light after Sonu Nigam lashed out at the Rajasthan Chief Minister for walking out of his performance midway. Three months ago, the singer stated how he felt disrespected when CM Bhajan Lal Sharma and other Ministers walked out of his concert in Jaipur. Since the IIFA awards were happening in Jaipur, Sonu linked the issue to that.
