Stree 2 Box Office Collection Day 10: Shraddha Kapoor Starrer Eyes ₹400 Crore Mark In 2nd Weekend

Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree 2 is unstoppable at the box office since it released on Independence Day, August 15. The movie earned ₹291.65 crore in the opening weekend and is now eyeing to surpass ₹ 400 crore mark in the second week. The second week witnessed a slow start by minting ₹17.5 crore at the box office in India. However, the movie showed major growth by 88.57 per cent on the second Saturday, making it a blockbuster movie of 2024 (Hindi).

Helmed by Amar Kaushik, the horror comedy earned ₹33 crores on Saturday, beating the second Saturday totals of Gadar 2 [₹31.07 crores], Jawan [₹30.10 crores], Baahubali 2 Hindi [₹26.50 crores], The Kashmir Files [₹24.80 crore], Pathaan [₹22.50 crore] and KGF2 Hindi [₹18.25 crore]. Adding the 10th-day collection, the total stands at ₹342.15 crore. Stree 2 had an overall 48.39 per cent Hindi occupancy on Saturday with the maximum reported in Chennai (69 per cent).

Seeing the trend, the movie might reach ₹400 crore mark post the Janmashtami holiday on Monday. The collections might ease after but the movie has enough time to enter September and by then it might reach near ₹500 crore mark. The Saturday growth also means that this pattern will be followed in the coming weeks, as per Box Office India.  

Stree 2 writer says the villain in the movie represents patriarchy

In an interview with PTI, Niren Bhatt argued “Stree is the symbol of matriarchy, she is not a witch. Bhediya is the protector of the forests. We have designed these characters in a certain way. We are not talking about hocus pocus or spirits out of the blue." While Stree revolved around a female ghost, who was wronged in her mortal life, its follow-up focuses on a headless villain called Sarkata with a connection to the eponymous character.

He added, “Some people complain that there is a lot of humour but less horror or vice versa but these are not horror films where actual ghosts are haunting people. All our ghosts are fallacies of our society. Sarkata is the most warped form of patriarchy."

The sequel brings back the original star cast of Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana.
