Sushmita Sen is gearing up for the release of her upcoming web series Taali. It is based on the life of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant, who faced struggles during her life. Amid this, she opened up about the struggles she has faced in her career. In a new interview, she said that she was judged in the 90s for being vocal about issues she believed in.

'The 90s was a much different world, says Sushmita Sen

Speaking to Pinkvilla, Sushmita Sen opened up about the time when she entered the film industry in the 90s. The actress said there was no internet or social media to put out your side of the story. Owing to this, one could not go against the norms.

However, according to the actress, things are different now. Everyone has their voice and can reach out to others using social media.

She added that if she had done this in the 90s then her voice would have been "heard loud and clear from a very young age".

 "I've always been pretty vocal, which has not been a very good thing many times. But if you ask me today would I change that I guess not because I don't know any other way to be," the actress concluded.

Sushmita Sen opens up on her voice being ‘contained’

On being asked for an instance where her voice was contained, Sushmita Sen said when she entered the film industry, she realised it operates on a "certain system". She wasn't part of the same. Even back then, Sushmita was quite vocal but it was easy to contain her as she had no platform to express herself except interviews.
