Tota Roy Chowdhury played a pivotal role in the recent family drama film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The film was headlined by Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, while Tota played the role of Alia’s father in the movie. Upon the film’s release, Tota’s performance was among the others which were appreciated by the cinegoers and the critics alike. In a recent interview, the actor admitted that he got ‘recognition’ only after starring in such a ‘mainstream’ film. 

Tota Roy Chowdhury says people in the North consider RARKPP his Hindi debut 

Tota Roy Chowdhury is a well-known personality in predominantly Bengali cinema. However, the actor has starred in a handful of Hindi films like Te3n, Kahaani 2, Indu Sarkar and Helicopter Eela. In an interview with DNA, the actor confessed that he got recognition only post his performance in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.  

The actor asserted, “I've done films with great directors, such as Sujoy Ghosh, Madhur Bhandarkar, late Pradeep Sarkar, with Rinku Dasgupta. In my first Hindi film, I got an opportunity to share screen space with the great Amitabh Bachchan. But people only came to know about me only after Rocky aur Rani.” He further noted how several people in the Hindi speaking are of the opinion that he made his Bollywood debut with the Ranveer Singh starrer. Tota Roy Chowdhury recalls reactions to his performance 

In Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Tota Roy Chowdhury played Chandon Chatterjee, a Kathak dancer who was ridiculed and made fun of by his father and members of society. Recalling people’s reaction to his role, the actor said, “I got so many reactions from performing artists, makeup artists, designers, hairstylists. So many people who made radical career choices and were mocked by their own family, they came up and told me 'You have portrayed our emotions'”
