Vijayta Reveals Kumar Gaurav's Words After Engagement To Raj Kapoor's Daughter: I'll Throw This Ring
Love Story actress Vijayta Pandit clarified that she had nothing to do with Kumar Gaurav and Raj Kapoor's daughter Reema (Jain)'s broken engagement.
Vijayta Pandit, who made a blockbuster debut in 1981 with the movie Love Story, is back in the news but this time for opening up about her relationship with Kumar Gaurav, her co-star. She also clarified that she had nothing to do with Kumar Gaurav and Raj Kapoor's daughter Reema's broken engagement. Vijayta is the widower of the late playback singer Aadesh Shrivastava, who died of cancer in 2015. Since her marriage to Aadesh, Vijayta left the big screens to focus on her playback career.
Vijayta Pandit on dating Kumar Gaurav
Vijayta and Kumar Gaurav met on the sets of their debut movie Love Story and over time fell in love. While Rajendra Kumar was against their relationship, Gaurav swore to Vijayta to marry her. Recalling her time with Gaurav and how the duo parted ways, she told Lehren Retro, "Bunty (Kumar Gaurav) was the first boy I hugged during the shoot for Love Story." She revealed that Rishi Kapoor-Dimple Kapadia, Sunny Deol-Amrita Singh and Sanjay Dutt-Tina Munim were real-life couples back then.
"Any love stories you look at, be it Rishi Kapoor-Dimple Kapadia's Bobby, Sunny Deol-Amrita Singh's Betaab, Sanjay Dutt and Tina Munim's Rocky, all these actors fell in love in real life. With such films you have to get into it, feel the romance... that was the first time a boy was touching me, so we both fell in love... Bunty was very fond of me; he would keep following me, holding my hands and dancing... he used to be a very charming boy. But his father and the film's producer Rajendra Kumar was very angry over our relationship," she added.
The former actress continued Rajendra Kumar used to tell Gaurav that he would get him married to a princess, a girl who belongs to a reputed family. Such conversations used to happen over drinks, owing to which she used to be scared, but it was Gaurav's confidence that used to put her at ease. However, things panned out as they planned and Rajendra Kumar got Gaurav engaged to Reema (who now goes by the name Reema Jain), Raj Kapoor's daughter without his will.
What happened after Kumar Gaurav got engaged to Reema?
She said, "Rajendra Kumar saw his son getting head over heels in love with me, so him and Raj Kapoor decided to get Kumar Gaurav and Reema engaged. I even attended the ceremony, I saw the huge diamond ring (Reema) she made him wear. I told him it looked so beautiful, and then he got angry said, 'If you don't like it, I will throw it away'... I ran away thinking he was going crazy." Vijayta added that Gaurav would come to his house often even after getting engaged to Reema. This would upset and scare her parents, but Gaurav was determined to marry her. "Bunty told my mother he would marry only me, despite his engagement. She told him this was impossible and then he swore that he would marry me," she added.
‘I got to know he was having an affair with Namrata Dutt’
In the same conversation, Vijayta recalled that she didn't know what happened after he swore to marry her. "I got to know that he was having an affair with Namrata Dutt. So he broke off his engagement with Reema, and I had absolutely no involvement with that," she clarified.
Vijayata was briefly married to Sameer Malkan who had directed her in Car Thief (1986). The marriage didn't last and the two parted ways. In 1990, she got married to Aadesh and welcomed two sons. In 1984, Gaurav married Namrata Dutt sister of Sanjay Dutt and daughter of Sunil Dutt and Nargis. They have two daughters, Saachi Kumar who is married to producer Kamal Amrohi's grandson Bilal Amrohi and Siya Kumar who is married to Aditya. Meanwhile, Reema has been married to businessman Manoj Jain for decades now. They are parents to actors Aadar and Armaan Jain.
