War 2: Jr NTR's role in spy universe finally teased as Hrithik Roshan's Kabir takes on 'shaitan'

With their upcoming film War 2, Yash Raj Films is gearing up to expand its spy universe. While the first film of the franchise released in 2012, the spy universe grew bigger with the 2019 film War, introducing the characters of Khalid (Tiger Shroff) and Kabir (Hrithik Roshan). Now, RRR star Jr NTR has also come on board the spy universe and will play the villain in War 2, which is being directed by Ayan Mukerji.

Jr NTR's supervillain role in War 2

In the recently released Tiger 3, Hrithik Roshan makes an appearance as he reprises his War character Kabir. The said film has a post-credits scene where Kabir (Hrithik) takes the fight to the bad guys. While Hrithik’s appearance in the film itself generated a lot of excitement, what further piqued the audience’s curiosity was the moment where a voiceover sets the premise for the next chapter of spy universe - War 2, which will seemingly introduce a new villain figure ‘shaitaan’ or devil, played by Jr NTR. The voiceover states that unlike the other opponents Kabir has faced as of now, the new villain has no name and face.

In this scene, Kabir is also warned that facing a force like this could radically alter Kabir’s own ideas of good and evil. This one has no name or face and lives in the shadows. He is also warned that going up against this formidable villain could make him question everything he knows about good and evil. "Shaitan se ladte ladte kahi khud shaitan na ban jao," the voiceover concludes.

The said Hrithik scene from the film has since gone viral, with many netizens expressing their excitement about NTR Junior's entry in the franchise. One X user wrote, “#Tiger3 post credits scene is none other than NTR. This is HUGE! Thanos of #YRFSpyUniverse.”

Kiara Advani to be part of War 2

Besides Jr NTR, War 2 will introduce Kiara Advani into the spy universe, as per reports. While War was directed by Sidhharth Anand, War 2 will be directed by Ayan Mukerji. He has earlier established his flair for big-scale action films with the 2022 release Brahmastra starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan among many others.

War 2 is tentatively scheduled for a January 2025 release, on Republic Day.
