Throwback/ When Poonam Dhillon said Amitabh Bachchan treated her like a prop in Trishul

In a recent interview, Poonam Dhillon recalled her early years in the film industry, particularly reminiscing shooting for her first film Trishul with none other than Amitabh Bachchan. She recently made headlines when her daughter Paloma made her acting debut opposite Sunny Deol's son Rajveer Deol.

No one realised it was my first day: Poonam Dhillon

Poonam Dhillon stated to Bollywood Bubble that she was still in her late teens when she gave her first shot for the film with the Deewaar actor. She added how no one apart from the film’s director Yash Chopra realised that it was her first shoot ever. While Dhillon recalls Chopra wishing her, “all the best Kudiye,” Dhillon added, “No one else realised that it was my first day and I was shooting with such a big star, and such a good looking man was to pick me up in his arms. He was going about the shoot holding me in his arms. He was treating me like a prop,”

Unlike most Bollywood films back in the day, Trishul was being shot extensively in Delhi. So that would mean hundreds of fans and movie lovers thronging the streets or any location where they spotted a film star or crew with a camera. Poonam recalled one of those countless fans approaching her on that day with an interesting question, adding, “She asked me, ‘How does it feel to be in Amitabh Bachchan’s arms?’” Poonam candidly replied to the fan that she didn’t register the moment at all, given she was so scared and nervous.

Poonam Dhillon made her debut with Trishul in 1978, and her first lead role the following year with the film Noorie. Noorie too was a Yash Raj films production, directed by Manmohan Krishna. Poonam Dhillon went on to be one of the most popular actresses in the 80s, working in films like Yeh Vaada Raha, Sohni Mahiwal, Teri Meherbaniyan among others.

Recently, Poonam Dhillon's daughter Paloma Dhillon made her debut in the Rajshri Films production Dono, directed by Sooraj Barjatya's son Avnish Barjatya. Paloma was paired with Sunny Deol's younger son Rajveer Deol in the film.
