New Delhi: Music composer AR Rahman has been admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after experiencing sudden chest pain. The Oscar-winning artist is currently under observation at Apollo Hospital on Greams Road.
This comes just weeks after AR Rahman’s ex-wife, Saira Banu, was also hospitalized following a medical emergency and underwent surgery. Saira has since shared an update on her recovery through her legal counsel, Vandana Shah.
“A few days ago, Mrs. Saira Rahman was hospitalized due to a medical emergency and underwent surgery. Her focus now is on a swift recovery, and she deeply appreciates the love and support from her well-wishers. She kindly requests prayers for her well-being,” said Saira in her statement.

“Mrs. Saira Rahman also extends her heartfelt thanks to her friends in Los Angeles, Resul Pookutty and his wife Shadia, as well as Vandana Shah and Mr. Rahman, for their unwavering support. Their kindness has been invaluable during this challenging time. May God bless them,”it added.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu were married in 1995 and have three children, daughters Khatija and Rahima, and son Ameen.
The couple announced their separation in November 2024 through a joint statement.
AR Rahman is an Indian composer, singer, and producer. He gained international fame with his soundtrack for Roja and went on to win two Academy Awards for his work on Slumdog Millionaire.
