Vir Das and Diljit Dosanjh have emerged as two of the most talked about celebs in the recent past due to their widespread recognition globally. Vir Das, a stand-up comedian, is currently on a world tour and will soon become the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards. Meanwhile, Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh is making India proud with his successful Dil-Luminati tour. However, their rising popularity has sparked some conspiracy theories.

Recently, a user on X questioned how both stars suddenly became popular on a global scale, and the post quickly went viral. In response, Vir addressed the issue and reacted to the post where he and Diljit were labelled as "mediocre artists."

What did X user say about Vir Das and Diljit Dosanjh?

Kartikeya Tanna is a US immigration lawyer, and the author of The Smriti Irani Story: Why She Won Amethi. On Monday, October 7, taking to his X account, Kartikeya questioned why these two "average" artists have recently received huge international recognition. He highlighted that Justin Trudeau even attended Diljit’s concert, referring to him as “the guy from Punjab ” instead of India.

Kartikeya, wrote “ Have you ever wondered why two very, very mediocre artists - Diljit Dosanjh and Vir Das - have suddenly been propped up to global scale fame? They’re suddenly benefiting from liaisons with top celebrities and getting gigs at top global events. Justin Trudeau went all the way to Diljit’s concert to welcome him as a “guy from Punjab ” (not India).”

He further suggested that they're being used to undermine India's influence, citing their interactions with Pakistani artists and comments about "two Indias". He even claims they are doing it for the reward.

His post further read, “The answer seems obvious - they’re Useful Idiots effectively tasked with denigrating India directly or indirectly (the ‘two Indias’ bit and hobnobbing with Pakistani artists, for eg). They’ve acquiesced in following a script which seeks to puncture India’s soft power and, as long as they do that, they’re reaping rewards.”

Vir Das slams X user for calling him and Diljit Dosanjh ‘mediocre’

As the post went viral, Vir Das also took to X and reacted to it. Vir explained that he covers rental fees for venues worldwide and has been performing for over 15 years, directly connecting with his audiences.

He wrote, “I love conspiracy nuts :-) I also love the insinuation that one has suddenly been propped up. I sell tickets, so does Diljit. I personally pay rental for every venue I book across the world, and go directly to audiences who are kind enough to come see me. I’ve done so for fifteen years.”

He added, “Mediocrity aside, my audience props me up. And when it comes to India and pride, I think my audience is mature enough to know honest conversations are the highest form of love. Cheers.”
