After a historic year that saw her marry and become the first Asian to win the Oscar for Best Actress, Michelle Yeoh is now a "grandmother." The actress received congratulations from several friends and celebrities, but some fans got confused after she posted a photo of a newborn baby. She later clarified it in a follow-up post.

Michelle Yeoh announces birth of her grandchild

Yeoh posted pictures of herself and her newest family member on Instagram early on Tuesday, January 2. She became a grandmother after her husband Jean Todt's son Nicolas had his first child.

The actress captioned the post, "A little miracle on the first day of 2024. We are so truly blessed… can’t tell u how happy I am for this very very special bundle of joy." The shared image showed the newborn's foot in her hand. 

After the confusion of a newborn in the family, Yeoh made it clear in another post that the baby belongs to her stepson Nicolas Todt and his partner, not to her with the caption, “Thank you darling Nicolas and Darina for making us the happiest and proudest Grandparents!! Welcome baby Maxime." She also shared some more sweet pictures of the baby with the rest of her family. 

A fulfilling year for Michelle Yeoh

Yeoh's newest family member arrived after a successful 2023 for the actress. For her performance in the action-comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once, Yeoh won an Oscar in March. She was the first Asian woman to win best actress in the history of the ceremony, and only the second person of color to do so (after Halle Berry in Monster's Ball from 2001).

Yeoh also celebrated a personal victory in July when she married her longtime fiance Todt. July 2004 marked the engagement of Yeoh and the former CEO of Ferrari.
