Ajith Kumar's Movie Crew Perceived Raghu Ram As 'Disrespectful' To Tamil Star, Here's Why

Ajith Kumar is one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema. After the release of Vidaamuyarchi, the Tamil star is now focussed on his racing endeavours while his next Good Bad Ugly gears up for its big screen debut. Actor and former Roadies host Raghu Ram shared how the crew on a set reacted when he addressed Ajith Kumar by his name instead of his title Thala or sir.

Raghu shared how he was "told off" for addressing Ajith by his name on set, despite their age being similar. "I grew up in Delhi and worked in Mumbai as well. We call our superiors by name. When I went to the shoot, Ajith came and introduced himself to me. Since he was around the same age as I am, I started calling him by his name. And it was awkward," Raghu recalled.

He shared that the director and all crew members were surprised at how he was addressing Ajith.

"The entire crew was shocked and there was silence. Later, the crew told me it was disrespectful. The director and the assistant director, when we went to Spain for shooting, told me off. Then, I told him I'd call him 'Sir', not for any fault of his, but because people were uncomfortable. I think he's not used to people talking to him normally," Raghu shared.

Ajith drops his title Thala

In 2021, Ajith Kumar, who is fondly referred to as Thala by his fans, released a statement in which he urged everyone, including the media, to refer to him by his name and not by any moniker.

"I henceforth wish to be referred to as Ajith, Ajith Kumar or Just AK and not as ‘Thala’ or any other prefix before my name. I sincerely wish you all to have a beautiful life filled with good health, happiness, success, peace of mind and contentment forever. Love, Ajith," read his statement shared in the past.
