Cirque du Soleil to close Las Vegas show ‘R.U.N’ on March 8

A live-action adventure show in Las Vegas will permanently close after financial concerns and lack of support, Cirque du Soleil company officials said.

The entertainment company announced Thursday that “R.U.N.” at Luxor Hotel and Casino will close March 8.

“We are in the business of taking risks,” company president and CEO Daniel Lamarre told the Las Vegas Review-Journal Thursday. “We thought we had a good risk here. We all believed it was the right thing to do, to bring something special and different to the Strip. Unfortunately we did not attract as many people to the show as we were hoping.”

The 75-minute show opened in October in the 1,500-seat theater.

The stunt-based show was inspired by blockbuster action movies and comic-book graphic novels, and features plenty of video projection, motorcycle jumps, pyrotechnics and freakshow-style shock performers.

People holding tickets for “R.U.N” past March 8 will be refunded at the original point of purchase, company officials said.

Cirque du Soleil still produces six original shows in Las Vegas including “O” at Bellagio, “Love” at The Mirage, “Ka” at MGM Grand, “Michael Jackson One” at Mandalay Bay, “Mystere” at Treasure Island and “Zumanity” at New York-New York.
