Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, his pianist wife Betsy Arakawa and their pet dog were found deceased in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home on Wednesday, February 27. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office officially confirmed the tragic news as they are investigating the matter. Further updates are yet to be available.
Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman has died at the age of 95
Santa Fe New Mexican, County Sheriff Adan Mendoza released an official statement revealing that 95-year-old Gene Hackman and his wife, 65, were found dead on Wednesday afternoon in their home in the Santa Fe Summit community northeast of the city.
The police department stated: “We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday.” The Press Association reported that an “active investigation’’ into the deaths is underway. Sheriff Mendoza mentioned there were no immediate signs of foul play but did not disclose the cause of death or estimate when the couple might have passed away.
Sheriff Mendoza informed local media shortly after midnight on Wednesday about the deaths. He noted, "All I can say is that we're in the middle of a preliminary death investigation, waiting on approval of a search warrant. We do not believe that foul play was a factor."

Hackman had lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, since the 1980s. He married his wife, Arakawa, in 1991.

Hackman was known for winning the Best Actor Oscar for portraying Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle in William Friedkin's 1971 thriller The French Connection. He later won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as Little Bill Daggett in Clint Eastwood's 1992 Western Unforgiven.
He also received Oscar nominations for his breakthrough performance as Buck Barrow in the 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde, his role in I Never Sang for My Father (1970), and as an agent in Mississippi Burning (1988).
