George R.R. Martin gives update on Game of Thrones animated spinoffs: Taking a next step..

Thanks to the first trailer and some early support from George R.R. Martin, the hype train for House of the Dragon Season 2 has fully resumed. Fans of Game of Thrones can now look forward to visiting the fantasy realm with anticipation. Apart from HOTD, several other spinoffs are being developed by HBO at different phases. 

George R.R. Martin teases Game of Thrones spinoffs

Martin wrote a new blog post, in which he shared some information about his future plans to pursue animation through GoT series. The author penned, “As it happens, HBO and I have our animated projects, set in the world of A Song Of Ice & Fire. None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we are getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them.”

Martin claimed that they even turned around a live-action Game of Thrones spin-off that was in development into an animated series. He added, “Work on the other two animated projects continues apace, however…and meanwhile, we have moved NINE VOYAGES, our series about the legendary voyages of the Sea Snake, over from live action to animation."

Expansion of the GoT universe 

"Nothing is certain" about these shows ever airing, the author emphasized. Martin might feel more cautious about new spinoffs now that he's reminded of another live-action spinoff that went so far as to film a pilot before it was canceled. 

Variety revealed in April of last year that a prequel about Aegon I Targaryen's conquest of Westeros was being developed and that a television series called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight had been ordered by HBO. It remains to be seen if any of these storylines relate to the animated series Martin is talking about.
