Disney has released the first trailer for Moana 2, offering a glimpse into the next chapter of Moana and Maui's animated adventures. Initially announced in February 2024, this sequel began as a Disney+ series before being transformed into a feature film. In Moana 2, the titular character embarks on a journey to distant lands, encountering new dangers alongside Maui.

The trailer, shared by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, showcases Moana's new epic adventure as she ventures into uncharted waters to reconnect her people with their ancestors. The preview includes scenes with a glowing whale shark, ancient locales, and the return of Maui. Moana is also seen traveling with a group of her people, suggesting a grander scale for this adventure.

What more do we know about Moana 2?

Directed and written by David G. Derrick Jr., Moana 2 is set to hit theaters on November 29. The film, originally conceived as a television series, now features new songs by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear. Prior to the trailer's release, Disney unveiled the official poster, depicting Maui's fish hook on the beach with Moana in the background.

In addition to the animated sequel, Disney is working on a live-action remake of Moana, directed by Thomas Kail and starring Dwayne Johnson. This film is slated for release on July 10, 2026. The original Moana film, released in 2016, followed Moana's oceanic journey with the shape-shifting demigod Maui and grossed $687 million worldwide, earning two Oscar nominations.
