Conan O'Brien made history at the 97th Academy Awards by speaking Hindi during the ceremony. He thanked audiences in Spain, India, and China, addressing them in Spanish, Hindi, and Mandarin.

In Hindi, he said, "Bharat ke logo ko namaskar. Wahan subah ho chuki hai toh mujhe ummeed hai ke aap crisp nashte ke saath Oscars dekh rahe honge" (Greetings to the people of India. It is morning there, so I hope you are watching the Oscars along with your breakfast).

Although many appreciated his efforts, Conan's pronunciation caught the internet's attention. One person commented, "Good attempt, but frankly, Conan totally butchered the Hindi greeting! (sic)." Another wrote, "Conan O'Brien deserves an Oscar for best attempt at a foreign language! Good job, though the Hindi was definitely Hinding! (sic)."

Conan O’Brien took the stage at the 2025 Academy Awards after a dazzling performance by nominees Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Turning his attention to the Emilia Pérez star, O’Brien addressed her directly. “Karla Sofía Gascón is here tonight. Karla, if you’re going to tweet about the Oscars, remember my name is Jimmy Kimmel,” he joked. Gascón looked puzzled, glanced at her companions, and then laughed.
