Robert Downey Jr. aka Iron Man, who died in the Avengers: Endgame is set to make his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) but there is a twist. On Saturday, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige took the Hall H stage at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 to announce new projects of MCU. During the announcement, they revealed that Robert Downey Jr is making a return. This has come after speculations were rife that Marvel would not go forward with its original plans to position Kang aka Avengers 5, now titled Avengers: Doomsday.
The veteran star is not returning as Iron Man but as a villain named Victor Von Doom or Doctor Doom in one of the upcoming Avengers movies. Downey kicked off Marvel’s movie successes with Iron Man and played the popular character in nine films, but on Saturday, he appeared wearing Dr. Doom’s mask and a green cloak. In the viral video, he says, “New mask, same task,” to frenzied cheers.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige kicked off the panel by saying that due to this weekend’s success of Deadpool & Wolverine, the sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe had now topped $30 billion in box-office earnings. In a nod to a scene in the movie, a choir sang Madonna’s Like a Prayer before Feige spoke, per a report on AP.
On Saturday, the movie nearly minted ₹22.50 crore in India, according to early estimates reported by Sacnilk. Adding the two-day collection, the total stands at ₹43.50 crore. Seeing the trend, the movie is expected to surpass ₹50 crore mark on Sunday. According to a report in bollymoviereviewz.com, the superhero flick has collected $96 million in the USA and is eyeing to mint $195 to $205 million in the US and $200 million overseas for $400 to $440 million worldwide opening weekend.
