Greta Gerwig directed Barbie has emerged as the biggest film of the year globally. The movie has earned massive commercial success as well as critical acclaim for all the performers. However, little was it known that Timothee Chalamet was also supposed to be a part of the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starrer. In a new interview, the Dune actor opens up about his alleged cameo role in Barbie.

Timothee Chalamet talks about his scrapped cameo in Barbie

Actor Timothee Chalamet has no idea what his scrapped Barbie cameo would have entailed. The 27-year-old actor revealed how he and Saoirse Ronan were lined up for brief roles in Greta Gerwig's hit movie but he has no idea who he would have played as it never came to fruition, reports aceshowbiz.com. "I don't know what the cameo would have been. I think it would have been one of the rejected Kens or Barbies, not Alan, but something. Maybe there was a reject French one along the way. I don't know," Chalamet told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Even though Chalamet never got to appear in Barbie, he did get the chance to see the set as it had just finished being built when his movie Wonka completed filming. He said, "It was kind of going from like a fantastical London chocolate (set, to this) insane (Barbie set)."

Gerwig confessed earlier this year that she "was so annoyed" that she couldn't fit appearances from Chalamet and Ronan in the picture - which featured Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead roles - as it "felt like doing something without my children." The 40-year-old filmmaker told CinemaBlend, “Well, it was always going to have to be a sort of smaller thing because (Saoirse) was actually producing at the time, which I am so proud of her for. And of course, it's brilliant. But it was going to be a speciality cameo. I was also going to do a speciality cameo with Timmy, and both of them couldn't do it and I was so annoyed. But I love them so much.”

When Greta Gerwig revealed Timothee Chalamet was disappointed for not being cast in Barbie

Director Greta Gerwig dropped a surprising announcement when she revealed that during mid-production of Barbie, actor Timothee Chalamet had walked in and told her that he too wanted to be a part of the project. Greta revealed that not only was the Dune actor greatly interested in the film, but was rather disappointed that he wasn't cast. The 27-year-old actor had apparently also wanted to portray one version of the many Ken dolls in Barbieland.

As reported by The Daily Mail, Gerwig said: "Timothee did come by the set during production and then said, 'I should have been in the Barbie movie'. And I was like, 'I know! Why aren't you in this?'' This was due to Chalamet himself being a good singer who would have perfectly fit the movie with both his acting, age and singing abilities. Prior to that, the filmmaker had previously told CinemaBlend that Chalamet and her muse Saoirse Ronan were courted for cameo appearances in ‘Barbie’ but scheduling conflicts got in the way much to her and Timothee’s disappointment. She went on to reveal that these delays very much annoyed her, adding “But I love them so much. But it felt like doing something without my children. I mean, I’m not their mom, but I sort of feel like their mom.”
