Mammootty, one of the most celebrated actors in the Indian film industry, has sustained an extraordinary level of fame for over four decades. In a recent interview, he shared insights into his journey to becoming an actor, revealing that he was originally a practicing lawyer. He recalled that his wife, Sulfath Kutty, was initially hesitant about his decision to pursue acting, but eventually supported his aspirations.

Mammootty reveals how his wife reacted to his career change

In a conversation with Khalid Al Ameri for his YouTube channel, Mammootty revealed how his wife Sulfath reacted to his career change. He said, "Initially, she was a little reluctant. But naturally, she loves me, and she came to support my ambitions. I’ve been in the film industry for the last 42 years, and she has stood by me." Mammootty and Sulfath Kutty had an arranged marriage in 1979 and have two children, Surumi and Dulquer Salmaan, the latter of whom is also a well-known actor.

Mammootty on his passion for acting

During the same interview, Mammootty revealed that his passion for acting began in childhood after watching his first film. "I wanted to become an actor when I was 7-8 years old," he said. Despite his early passion, he pursued law and was practicing as a lawyer when his desire to act resurfaced. After marrying in 1979, he finally ventured into the film industry as a leading actor.

Mammootty recounted how an unplanned meeting with producer MT Vasudevan Nair was pivotal to his career. "There was an accidental meeting with MT Vasudevan Nair, and he got impressed with my ambitions to become an actor. Then he offered me chances. That starts history," he explained. His passion for films grew even during his years as a lawyer.

In recent years, Mammootty has starred in notable Malayalam films such as Kaathal – The Core, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, and Bramayugam, among others.
